LOOKBOOK : Primark a/w 2011

Wow, you wouldn't believe it's actually Primark (Pennys) if I didn't mention it would you? Looks like Pennys are feeling the 70's for next season along with color blocking!
Victoria Beckham also had a lot of the darker more intense colors on her catwalk this season - especially mustards and oranges - traditional fall colors. It's a take on the massive trend for this current season of acid tones which was made popular by Jil Sander and has since inspired half the high street. This is the darker a/w version of the trend.
Looks like my favourite white blouse will be returning to the shelves, only this time in mustard with smaller sleeves. Not to mention the pencil skirt which is set to replace the mid length pleated skirt as THE skirt of the season. Not sure if I like or hate them, but there was no denying that the designers were feeling them.
While the 70's trend is clearly the one to watch AGAIN for next season, there seems to be a prim and proper ladylike feel to the high street next season, Topshop also showcased a range of looks which seemed to take inspiration from one's nan. Think chunky knits belted at the waist, ladylike blouses and smart respectable trousers - with a youthful twist - they are turned up to the ankle. (I don't know why the ankle crop seems to -ahem, crop up - every A/W, given that it gets colder, you think that jeans would get longer - but no)
Boots are also laced up to add to the ladylike, almost 1940's feel. I don't know if it is that there are a lot of similar design quirks between 40's and 70's which is why they often get lumped in together when designers are stuck for eras to be inspired by - but you rarely get one without the other.
There is something very gossip girl about that coat. Prehaps its the Serena way she's wearing it - with a skirt and long legs!
Nearly everything in the collection is high waisted - and watch out for the peter pan collars which are starting to creep into their collections already for SS, you'll have noted on our last post for Primark, which featured that gorgeous dress and blouse - that the collar was already there.
This dress really doesn't look like Primark. For one thing, it's so 70's it's unbelievable - but I would team this with a massive floppy hat and HUGE platforms.(maybe even a Charlie's angel's hair flick!!)
This coat reminds me of Topshop Unique's A/W show which featured a lot of dalmation print. Even Jessie J has already featured a piece from the collection in her new video - so prehaps now that JLO killed and buried snakeskin (otherwise known as the most horrible print around) this could be the animal print of the season? I'm sick of leopard already! Every fecking winter!
